What age does my child need to be to play Upward Basketball?
Our Upward Program offers leagues for players who are 4 years old through 5th Grade.  The teams are co-ed.
Why does my child need to come to the evaluation day?
The purpose of evaluations for each basketball player in our league is to help us to get an idea of your child’s skill level. We do our best to form teams that are as even as possible, so your child will play against someone of similar skill level. This is not a try out. All kids who register will be on a team. Players will also be fitted for their uniform on this day. Evaluations will take place in the Kenwood Heights Christian Church Gym on Saturday, December 1 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The evaluation takes about 30 minutes.
There will be a second evaluation on Thursday, December 19 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. for those that miss the first evaluation.
How much playing time will my child get?
Every child will have an equal amount of playing time throughout the basketball season.  Our league is designed to be fair to each kid regardless of skill level. Our coaches rotate their starting lineups, so that each kid gets a chance to start.
How long is the season?
Our season is 10 weeks long.  We will start practice the week of January 6, 2019 and conclude the season on Saturday, March 16.  We will have our Awards Night on Friday, March 22.
How often are games and practices?
Your child will have one practice and one game per week.  Practice will be the same day during the week for the entire season and all games will take place on Saturday mornings at Kenwood Heights Christian Church.  The first two Saturdays of the season will be practices and games will begin on January 26. Your child’s coach will contact you to let you know specific dates and times.
What is included in the cost?
Your child’s registration cost helps with the cost of equipment (basketballs, whistles, scoreboards, etc..), shipping and the Awards Night.  It also includes a uniform that your child will be able to keep.  The basketball uniform includes a t-shirt, reversible jersey, and reversible shorts.  You child will also receive a trophy and a special gift at the Awards Night.
Why should my child play Upward Basketball?
Upward Basketball teaches kids basketball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and character. This is a teaching league and not a competitive league. If your child plays Upward Basketball, he or she will learn a lot about basketball. But, the focus of the league is on so much more than just learning basketball skills. Each week, your child will learn about being a team player, having the right attitude, and, most importantly, about Jesus. Every practice, our coaches take time to sit down and talk with each player about character virtues such as integrity, patience, trust, and honor. In Upward Basketball, your child will grow as an athlete, but also as a person.
